Department of Agriculture – Vacancy Announcement – 2025

The following positions are currently available at the Plant Health Directorate in Pretoria. Applications are accepted until the post is filled.

1. Administration Clerk – Ref No 3/3/1/18/2025

Salary: R228 321 per annum (Level 05)
Location: Gauteng, Pretoria – Head Office

Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of clerical duties, data entry, computer operations and basic statistics.
  • Understanding of the public‑service legislative framework and office procedures.
  • Good verbal and written communication, planning, organisation, computer literacy, teamwork and flexibility.

Primary Duties

  • Record, organise, store, capture and retrieve correspondence and data.
  • Maintain registers and answer routine enquiries.
  • Manage photocopying, faxing and document distribution.
  • Maintain filing systems, type correspondence, and manage incoming/outgoing document registers.
  • Support supply‑chain clerical tasks – liaise for procurement, obtain quotations and manage office stationery stock.
  • Maintain leave and personnel records, arrange travel and accommodation, and support financial administration (recording expenditures, checking travel claims, managing petty cash).

2. Registry Clerk – Ref No 3/3/1/21/2025

Salary: R228 321 per annum (Level 05) + 37 % in lieu of benefits
Location: Gauteng, Pretoria – Head Office
Positions: Office of the Minister (1) and Office of the Deputy Minister (1)

Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Knowledge of registry duties, data entry, computer operations and public‑service legislative framework.
  • Understanding of document storage, retrieval and registry procedures.
  • Strong planning, computer literacy, written and verbal communication, interpersonal relations, flexibility and teamwork.

Primary Duties

  • Provide registry counter services – attend to clients and handle enquiries.
  • Receive, register, sort and dispatch mail and correspondence.
  • Manage filing, storage, tracing and retrieval of documents.
  • Operate office machines such as a franking machine, maintain registers and process remittances.
  • Process documents for archiving or disposal, including electronic scanning and packaging.
  • Maintain records of archived documents.

3. Driver / Messenger – Ref No 3/3/1/22/2025

Salary: R193 359 per annum (Level 04) + 37 % in lieu of service benefits
Location: Gauteng, Pretoria – Head Office
Positions: Office of the Minister (1) and Office of the Deputy Minister (1)

Requirements

  • Grade 10 or ABET qualification.
  • Minimum 7 months of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the city/cities where duties will be performed.
  • Valid Code 8 driver’s licence.
  • Organising, communication and interpretation skills.

Primary Duties

  • Drive light and medium vehicles to transport passengers and deliver mail, documents and equipment.
  • Collect, distribute and control movement of documents.
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance, daily trip inspections and maintain logbooks and trip sheets.
  • Assist registry functions – filing, tracing documents, photocopying and faxing.
