Job Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for an experienced Casual Cashier to join our Mall of the North store. The role involves handling customer transactions at the point of sale, ensuring a high‑quality shopping experience, and maintaining accurate records on the Dis‑Chem operating system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow Dis‑Chem’s customer service policies and procedures.
  • Build professional relationships with customers.
  • Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management.
  • Maintain the required customer turnover hourly rate.
  • Stay informed about current sales and promotions.
  • Protect colleagues and customers from any risk.
  • Apply Dis‑Chem’s 5‑star communication principles.
  • Manage cash flow and ensure all line voids and price changes are approved.
  • Handle merchandise exchanges and returns when authorised.
  • Process all payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, etc.).
  • Process loyalty cards from partners such as Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks.
  • Place cash in the drop safe following SOPs.
  • Keep your code and password secure and change them regularly.
  • Scan and pay for all outgoing stock/items/scripts.
  • Keep all money safely inside the till.
  • Handle daily takings confidentially and discuss only with management.
  • Report suspicious behaviour to management.
  • Answer queries about store merchandise.
  • Adhere to Dis‑Chem’s security policies and procedures.

Essential Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Minimum 6 months of cashier/till operations experience.
  • Computer literate – MS Office.
  • Strong numerical skills.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Basic customer service skills.
  • Willing and able to work retail hours.
