Position Overview

The University of Pretoria is looking for a Stage Hand – Theatre Assistant to support the preparation of our theatres for events. You will work in venues such as the Aula, Chapel, Rautenbach Hall, Musaion, Amphitheatre, and other locations as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up and preparing theatres for events.
  • Ensure all equipment and stage elements are ready and safe.
  • Work closely with the facilities team to meet event requirements.
  • Support sound, lighting, and rigging tasks as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 qualification.
  • At least 6 months of stagehand experience.
  • Valid Code B driver’s licence.

Required Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of sound and lighting.
  • Basic knowledge of stage setup.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Technical skills in sound and lighting setup, focusing, rigging, and use of gels.
  • Team player with the ability to work under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Grade 12 qualification.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a theatre environment.

Remuneration and Benefits

The salary will match the level of appointment as per UP policy. The University participates in the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes, contributing 50% of the monthly premium.
