About the Role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for Casual Cashiers to join our talent pool for Waterfall stores. The talent pool is a group of pre‑screened candidates ready for future opportunities within Dis-Chem.

Purpose

Support customers at the point of sale and provide a world‑class shopping experience. Record all transactions accurately on the Dis-Chem operating system, following company policies and standard operating procedures. Zero tolerance for errors or fraud.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures.
  • Build a professional relationship with customers.
  • Report complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management.
  • Maintain the required customer turnover hourly rate.
  • Stay informed about current sales and promotions.
  • Protect colleagues and customers from risk.
  • Apply Dis-Chem’s 5‑star communication principles.
  • Manage cash flow and ensure all line voids and price changes are approved.
  • Handle merchandise exchanges and returns when authorised.
  • Process all payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, etc.).
  • Process loyalty cards from partners such as Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks.
  • Place cash in the drop safe according to SOPs.
  • Keep your code and password secure and change it regularly.
  • Scan and pay for all outgoing stock/items/scripts.
  • Keep all money safely inside the till.
  • Handle daily takings confidentially and discuss only with management.
  • Report suspicious behaviour to management.
  • Answer queries about store merchandise.
  • Follow Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • At least 6 months of cashier/till experience.
  • Computer literate – MS Office.
  • Strong numerical skills.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Basic customer service skills.
  • Willing and able to work retail hours.

  • In‑depth knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers.
  • Experience processing sales, refunds, and payments.
  • Strong written and oral English.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Presentable appearance.
  • Emotional intelligence and social awareness.
  • Accountability and honesty.
  • Problem‑solving skills.
  • Basic report analysis.
  • Time management.

Advantageous: Ability to speak a third language.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Willing and able to work retail hours.
  • Reliable transport and/or residence close to the store.
  • South African citizen.
  • Clear credit and criminal records.
