Job Opportunity: Workshop Assistant
Rand Water, the largest water utility in Africa, is seeking a reliable and skilled Workshop Assistant to join our team in Gauteng. This is a full-time position where you will provide vital support to the Mechanical Maintenance team, helping to ensure our water supply infrastructure remains in top condition.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Assistant Mechanical Foreman, you will assist with general mechanical maintenance and perform minor machining of spare parts. Your work will directly contribute to the efficiency and safety of our plant operations.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or an N3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Mechanical Artisan Assistant or working in a mechanical workshop environment.
- Practical experience with machining, specifically using center lathes and milling machines.
- Basic knowledge of pumps, valves, and gearboxes.
- A trade qualification as a Fitter & Turner or training from a recognized technical center will be an added advantage.
Primary Responsibilities
- Complete and manage daily job cards accurately.
- Inspect, repair, and secure safety guards on machinery.
- Use power saws and other tools to cut materials following strict safety procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections of plant equipment and machinery, reporting any failures to the supervisor.
- Transport parts and equipment safely across the plant.
- Perform routine lubrication, including greasing bearings and chain drives.
- Service plant equipment according to the maintenance schedule.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Strong basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Proficiency with hand tools and machining tools.
- Intermediate skill level in operating milling machines and center lathes.
