Function Specialist: Information & Cyber Management
Transnet is a vital part of South Africa’s freight logistics chain, responsible for delivering goods across the country and maintaining world-class transport infrastructure. We are looking for a dedicated professional to join our Freight Rail division to ensure our business environment remains safe, secure, and resilient.
Position Purpose
The primary goal of this role is to implement information and cyber security capabilities that protect our business. You will align security measures with business objectives, ensure the integrity and availability of information systems, and guide the organization in selecting and implementing modern security solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Development: Lead the design and implementation of the Information and Cyber Security Strategy. Establish a Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) for proactive threat response.
- Security Management: Develop comprehensive security frameworks based on international standards like NIST, ISO, and COBIT. Oversee the execution of the information security program and manage all security technologies, including firewalls and antivirus systems.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and plan the activities of the IT security team. Drive a culture of learning, performance, and innovation.
- Policy & Compliance: Develop and maintain IT security policies. Ensure all business units comply with statutory regulations and organizational standards.
- Risk Management: Identify and assess security risks across projects and processes. Implement corrective actions and stay updated on global security trends.
- Stakeholder & Financial Management: Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies. Manage the annual security budget (OPEX) and provide input for capital expenditure (CAPEX) planning.
- Incident Response: Coordinate cyber incident response plans and ensure teams are trained and equipped to handle recovery and detection.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- A postgraduate qualification is considered an advantage.
Required Certifications (at least one):
- CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
- CISM (Certified Information Security Manager)
- Or an equivalent recognized professional certification.
Experience:
- 8–10 years of experience in Information and Cyber Security within both IT and business environments.
- At least 3 years in a leadership role managing large teams or complex projects.
- Experience in designing and deploying cyber security programs and managing security tools.
- Must meet trust and honesty standards and be willing to undergo a lifestyle audit.
General Requirements:
- Valid Code 08 Driver’s Licence.
- Willingness to travel as required.
