Post-Doctoral Fellowship: Development Economics and Informal Economy

North-West University (NWU) is a leading institution with campuses across the North-West and Gauteng provinces. Our research entity, TRADE (Trade and Development), is currently inviting applications for a two-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship based at our Potchefstroom Campus.

We focus on high-impact research in Development Economics, International Trade, Applied Economics, Financial Markets, and Transport Economics. The Role

The successful candidate will join a team of experienced researchers to help strengthen scholarly output in Economics. The primary research focus areas include:

  • Development Economics
  • The Informal Economy
  • Migrant Workers and Day Labourers
  • Informal Entrepreneurship

This is a two-year contract position, with the possibility of a one-year extension based on performance.

Minimum Requirements

  • A PhD in Economics or a closely related field, completed within the last five years. (Preference will be given to candidates who did not obtain their doctorate from NWU).
  • Strong mathematical and econometric analysis skills.
  • A proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, specifically in financial market research.
  • Full proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A proactive work ethic; experience in securing research funding is a distinct advantage.
