Role Overview
De Beers Group, the world’s leading diamond company, is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you will support the Finance department by providing accurate financial information, assisting with budgets and forecasts, and ensuring compliance with company policies. You will work closely with the Senior Management Accountant and various budget holders to ensure smooth financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Administration and Controls
- Prepare monthly management accounts and support profit center reporting.
- Process journals for cost reallocations and corrections.
- Manage monthly, half-year, and year-end accruals.
- Ensure employment costs and headcount data are accurate and align with policies.
- Maintain compliance with corporate finance policies and handle SAP transactions.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist budget holders during annual budget and forecasting cycles.
- Validate cost assumptions and requirements by engaging with department owners.
- Calculate employment costs and consolidate overhead allocations.
- Enter budget and forecast data accurately into the SAP system.
Accounts Payable and Reporting
- Help create purchase requisitions and orders.
- Support invoice processing and resolve any payment issues.
- Reconcile vendor accounts and follow up on outstanding items.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and perform variance analysis to identify risks or opportunities.
Stakeholder Support
- Provide financial guidance and training to non-finance managers.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accounting or an equivalent degree.
Experience:
- Practical experience in accounting or a profit-center environment.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Background in organizations with multiple service lines and complex cost allocations.
- Familiarity with accounts payable and procurement systems.
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- Solid understanding of management and financial accounting principles.
- Proficiency in SAP ERP (highly preferred).
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and MS Office.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain financial data clearly.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive problem-solving skills.
