Role Purpose

The Boilermaker Apprenticeship is designed to develop skilled individuals into competent, qualified artisans. Throughout this program, you will learn to work independently and productively. You will be trained to plan, manufacture, assemble, and repair various components and installations in a professional engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare work sites, tools, and materials for technical operations.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments accurately.
  • Plan and carry out the assembly and fitting of structural components.
  • Test, inspect, and maintain equipment and installations.
  • Modify and repair components to ensure they meet safety and quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age and possess one of the following educational qualifications:

1. N2 Certificate with subjects:

  • Mathematics (Pure)
  • Engineering Science
  • Plating and Structural Drawing
  • Engineering Drawing
  • Metal Worker’s Theory or Plater’s Theory

2. N3 to N6 Certificate with subjects:

  • Mathematics (Pure)
  • Engineering Science
  • Plating and Structural Drawing
  • Engineering Drawing
  • Mechanotechnology

3. NCV Level 4 with subjects:

  • English (First Additional Language)
  • Mathematics (Pure)
  • Life Orientation
  • Engineering Processes and Practice
  • Applied Engineering Technology
  • Welding

4. Technical Grade 12 with subjects:

  • Mechanical Technology (Welding and Metalwork)
  • Mathematics (Pure)
  • Physical Science
  • Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD)
  • English and Home Language
  • Life Orientation
