About the South African Revenue Service (SARS)

SARS is the national tax authority of South Africa. We are responsible for managing the country’s tax and customs systems. Our primary goal is to collect national taxes and duties to support the nation’s growth and development.

Role Purpose

As an Electronic Forensic Analyst, your main task is to examine computerized accounting systems. You will extract and analyze electronic data to support audits and forensic investigations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Extraction: Collect, convert, and verify electronic accounting data for use in audits.
  • Risk Analysis: Use data analysis tools to identify unusual trends, errors, or potential fraud within datasets.
  • Forensic Support: Provide expert technical input for compliance and forensic audits by interpreting financial data flows and ledgers.
  • Problem Solving: Identify data discrepancies and recommend ways to fix them.
  • Process Improvement: Suggest and implement ways to improve data collection and reporting procedures.
  • Governance: Ensure all work follows official policies, legal standards, and ethical guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with team members and stakeholders to share knowledge and achieve project goals.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who meet one of the following criteria:

Option 1:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7).
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in extracting and analyzing data from ERP systems (such as SAP, Sage, Oracle, or Syspro).
  • Proven experience using tools like SQL, Python, SAS, ACL, or IDEA.

Option 2:

  • Senior Certificate (Matric/NQF 4).
  • 10 years of experience in the same technical areas mentioned above.
