Department Overview

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) is responsible for protecting and conserving South Africa’s environment and natural resources. Our work is driven by the Constitution, ensuring that everyone has the right to a healthy environment.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A National Diploma (NQF level 6) in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least three years of experience in Forestry Management, Commercial Forestry, or a similar field.
  • Legal Knowledge: A solid understanding of the National Forest Act, the National Veld and Forest Fire Act, the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), and policies governing natural resources.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of data collection (enumeration) and financial management.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency with computers.
  • Leadership: The ability to lead a team, manage projects, and handle professional criticism.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong skills in negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Work Ethic: Ability to work under pressure, work long hours when needed, and a willingness to travel.
  • License: A valid driver’s license is required.
