Job Opportunity: Senior Security Officer (Team Leader)

The South African Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is responsible for the administration and safety of the nation’s prison system. With a dedicated workforce of over 34,000 staff members, the department manages 240 correctional facilities across the country. We are currently seeking a professional and experienced individual to join our team as a Senior Security Officer (Team Leader) for Internal Security.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or a relevant NQF Level 6 qualification in Behavioural Sciences.
  • Training: Successful completion of the Correctional Science Learnership, Basic Training, or Induction Training Course (ITC).
  • Experience:
    • For Grade 12 holders: At least 10 years of relevant experience at the entry-level production post (CB 1).
    • For NQF Level 6 qualification holders: No previous experience is required.
  • Skills: Must be computer literate and possess a valid driver’s license.

Key Responsibilities

As a Team Leader, you will play a vital role in maintaining the safety and integrity of the correctional facility. Your duties will include:

  • Security Leadership: Leading security teams to monitor prison grounds and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Contraband Control: Preventing the entry or removal of unauthorized items through regular searches of cells, work areas, and offenders.
  • Surveillance: Coordinating the manning of watch towers, conducting patrols, and detecting potential escape attempts.
  • Escort Duties: Supervising the safe transport of offenders to courts, hospitals, and other external appointments.
  • Supervision: Monitoring offender work teams and supervising visitor contact to ensure all safety protocols are followed.
  • Resource Management: Managing human resources, department finances, and government assets within your unit.
  • Equipment Control: Overseeing the maintenance and proper use of security equipment, including the management of dog and mounted units.
