Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or a relevant NQF level 6 qualification in Sport Management Sciences or Behavioural Sciences.
  • Training: Successful completion of the Correctional Science Learnership, Basic Training, or Induction Training Course (ITC).
  • Experience:
    • Applicants with a Matric only require 10 years of relevant experience at the entry-level production post (CB 1).
    • Applicants with a relevant NQF level 6 qualification require no previous experience.
  • Certifications: A valid driver’s license is required. Recognized coaching accreditation in at least one sport code is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

As a Sports Facilitator, your duties will include:

Program Development and Coaching

  • Create annual and weekly sports and recreation plans that support inmate rehabilitation.
  • Facilitate coaching, conditioning, and skill development in sports such as soccer, rugby, netball, athletics, and volleyball.
  • Adapt activities for different age groups, fitness levels, and individuals with disabilities or special medical needs.
  • Incorporate life skills, discipline, teamwork, and conflict resolution into all sporting activities.

Administration and Collaboration

  • Work with psychologists, social workers, and educators to align sports activities with overall rehabilitation and reintegration plans.
  • Maintain records of participation, progress, and behavioral changes for reporting purposes.
  • Organize internal leagues, tournaments, and wellness days.
  • Manage logistics for events, including venues, equipment, officials, and first aid.

Safety and Maintenance

  • Ensure all activities follow strict security and safety protocols.
  • Inspect and maintain sports facilities, fields, and gym equipment to ensure they are safe for use.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety briefings before activities begin.
  • Manage equipment inventory, tool control, and asset registers.
  • Provide a safe and humane environment for incarcerated individuals.
