About the Position
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is seeking a dedicated Deputy Director of Housing. This role is essential in helping the city meet its housing goals and ensuring residents have access to quality municipal services, including clean water, electricity, and proper infrastructure.
Key Requirements
- A relevant tertiary qualification (Bachelor’s degree).
- Five to seven years of professional experience in a related field.
- A valid Code B driver’s licence.
Core Competencies and Skills
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Municipal Systems Act, and local government financial policies.
- Leadership: Ability to manage staff, oversee performance goals, and lead a division effectively.
- Financial Management: Experience with budgetary control and meeting audit requirements.
- Communication: Excellent report-writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Problem Solving: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle pressure and meet conflicting deadlines.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office applications.
Job Purpose and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will manage housing programs that translate national and local visions into reality. You will be responsible for ensuring the Metro fulfills its legal and constitutional mandates regarding housing. This includes improving access to economic opportunities, health services, education, and essential utilities like sanitation and road infrastructure.
