Job Purpose
We are looking for a dedicated Professional Nurse to provide age-appropriate care within our Surgical Ward. You will work according to the nursing scope of practice defined by the South African Nursing Council (SANC) to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and recovery.

Key Responsibilities

Your main duties will include providing direct patient care, supervising staff, and ensuring a safe environment. Key tasks involve:

  • Practicing within the Registered Nurse scope of practice and adhering to hospital regulations.
  • Providing specialized care for patients in the surgical and oncology units.
  • Monitoring patient conditions, assessing their needs, and communicating updates to doctors.
  • Creating and following individualized care plans in collaboration with the medical team.
  • Performing routine procedures such as blood pressure checks, injections, and updating patient charts.
  • Administering medications and treatments as ordered by physicians.
  • Ensuring excellent hygiene by decontaminating equipment and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Providing immediate medical care during emergencies.
  • Fostering a compassionate environment for patients and their families.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric certificate.
  • Current registration with SANC as a Registered Nurse with a valid APC.
  • At least two years of experience in a Surgical Ward, specifically with Oncology experience.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime when necessary.
  • Basic computer literacy (MS Word and Excel).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Proven experience and deep knowledge of nursing methods and emergency care.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety guidelines (sanitation and decontamination).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
