The Role
We are looking for a General Forester to oversee our plantation activities. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and controlling both Silviculture (growing trees) and Harvesting operations. You will ensure that our forestry projects are efficient, safe, and meet high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Management: Oversee timber collection, transport, and delivery. Implement harvesting plans and monitor daily production progress.
- Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections to ensure timber quality and address any customer complaints.
- Silviculture & Conservation: Manage tree planting, fertilizing, thinning, and weed control. Coordinate firebreak burning and other conservation efforts.
- Infrastructure & Maintenance: Assess and maintain plantation roads. Ensure all vehicles and equipment are serviced and licensed.
- Team Leadership: Manage staff performance, identify training needs, and provide coaching to your team.
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain safety records (SHE), perform risk assessments, and ensure all operations follow environmental and safety regulations.
- Reporting: Participate in management meetings, provide operational updates, and assist with budget preparation.
Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate.
- National Diploma in Forestry (NQF Level 6).
- A B-Tech or BSc Degree in Forestry (NQF Level 7) is an added advantage.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Field Forester or in a similar role.
- Experience in both harvesting and silviculture is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license is essential.
