Job Opportunity: Planning Engineer
Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) is a dedicated Water Board established under the Water Services Act. We provide bulk water supply and related services, operating several water purification works and supply schemes across the Limpopo Province.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in bulk water supply, industry, or municipal environments.
- Leadership: Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Professional Standing: Mandatory Professional Registration with ECSA.
- License: A valid driver’s license.
- Preferred: A Postgraduate Diploma or Master’s degree in Engineering Management is an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the successful candidate will lead infrastructure planning and engineering analysis. Primary duties include:
Infrastructure & Strategic Planning
- Develop long-term plans for replacing, refurbishing, or extending water infrastructure.
- Align LNW’s infrastructure plans with national Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) projects and regional expansion goals.
- Conduct detailed engineering analyses, including feasibility studies, water resource modeling, and hydraulic modeling.
Technical Analysis & Design
- Perform techno-economic evaluations, including project viability studies (NPV, IRR) and capital budgeting.
- Review and verify technical drawings (PFDs, P&IDs, as-builts) to ensure they meet all engineering standards and requirements.
- Analyze equipment life cycles to ensure assets are maintained and replaced at the optimal time.
Management & Coordination
- Manage and provide professional guidance to external service providers and engineering teams.
- Liaise with government departments, local authorities, and the public regarding water service development strategies.
- Prepare and manage the budget for the planning function, ensuring all expenditures are controlled and compliant with company policy.
