Job Overview
The Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for general repairs and the upkeep of school facilities. This role ensures that our classrooms, bathrooms, and grounds remain safe and functional for students and staff.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric) or an N-4 Technical qualification.
- Relevant certificates in plumbing, carpentry, or building repairs.
- At least 2 years of experience in maintenance, groundskeeping, or plumbing.
- Experience working in a school environment is an added advantage.
- A valid driver’s license and basic computer literacy are preferred.
Skills and Requirements
- Strong understanding of basic plumbing, electrical work, and construction.
- Ability to perform painting, roofing, and wall/floor tiling.
- Physical fitness to lift heavy items and work at various heights.
- Knowledge of the Health and Safety Act and safe working practices.
- Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to stand or walk for long periods.
- Basic landscaping skills are a plus.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform handyman tasks including basic plumbing, electrical assistance, and building repairs.
- Respond to maintenance requests to fix facility issues promptly.
- Conduct daily checks and maintenance of classrooms, corridors, and bathrooms.
- Maintain and care for all cleaning equipment and tools.
- Dispose of trash and transport waste to designated collection points.
- Report any major repair needs or safety concerns to management.
- Assist the Supervisor with other facility-related tasks as needed.
