Job Summary
We are looking for a qualified Automotive Electrician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy earth-moving machinery in both field and workshop environments.
Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 or N3 Technical Certificate and a recognized Trade Test (NCC) as an Auto Electrician.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working with heavy earth-moving or mining equipment.
- License: A valid driver’s license is required.
- Technical Skills: Strong troubleshooting skills, computer literacy, and a deep understanding of maintenance philosophies and standard tool requirements.
- Communication: Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Safety and Compliance
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Participate in risk assessments and hazard identification.
- Follow the “Komatsu Way” 5S standards (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain).
- Ensure the correct use of protective gear (PPE) and report any hazardous situations or incidents.
Inspections and Diagnostics
- Conduct visual and functional inspections of machines to identify breakdowns, leaks, or missing parts.
- Download machine data and use diagnostic tools (gauges, multimeters, etc.) to compare actual readings against specifications.
- Identify abnormalities and recommend effective repair solutions.
Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform mechanical and electrical repairs in the field or workshop.
- Carry out planned maintenance and services on equipment.
- Execute machine overhauls and basic welding repairs when necessary.
- Test and adjust components to ensure equipment is in top working order.
Planning and Reporting
- Plan for service calls, stock requirements, and resources needed for repairs.
- Complete daily activity logs, service reports, and commissioning documents.
- Provide feedback to management regarding continuous improvement and equipment performance.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are well-maintained and ready for use.
Preferred Experience
While the primary focus is Auto-Electrical, experience in the following areas is highly valued:
- Heavy Plant Mechanics
- Millwright (Mechanical and Medium Voltage)
- High Voltage Electrical systems
- Refrigeration and Air-conditioning maintenance
