Deputy Director: Application Development & Support

About the dtic

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) was established in June 2019. Its mission is to promote structural transformation, facilitate investment and trade, and strengthen economic development across South Africa.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 7) in Computer Science, Informatics, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant managerial experience in the ICT industry, within either the public or private sector.

Key Responsibilities

1. Application Development

  • Establish software development standards and procedures.
  • Analyze stakeholder requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Develop and test application software to ensure it meets quality standards.
  • Integrate systems with other public entities and configure software with proper security controls.

2. Maintenance and Support

  • Manage system functionality throughout its entire lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and manage change requests.
  • Implement system upgrades and ensure all processes are auditable.
  • Monitor system performance and perform necessary diagnostics and tuning.

3. Deployment and Change Management

  • Assess the impact of system changes and oversee their implementation.
  • Track and report on the status of changes and maintain clear documentation.
  • Coordinate deployment schedules with all relevant stakeholders.

4. External Solution Management

  • Validate operational environments and oversee the installation of external software.
  • Manage data conversions and perform unit testing on software modifications.
  • Ensure software components are distributed correctly and are ready for operation.

5. Team and Financial Management

  • Contribute to strategic planning and the execution of operational goals.
  • Manage financial resources, assets, and budget controls.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop staff members while managing performance processes.
