About the Organization

The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) is an independent body that oversees correctional centers in South Africa. Our mission is to protect the rights of incarcerated individuals and ensure that correctional operations are handled fairly and legally. JICS reports to the Minister of Correctional Services and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee.

Job Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Matric certificate and a B Proc, LLB, or an equivalent legal degree (NQF level 7).
  • Experience: At least 7 years of experience in legal services, with at least 5 years in a management role.
  • Legal Knowledge: A deep understanding of the South African Constitution, the Correctional Services Act, and the legal framework of the correctional environment.
  • Travel: A valid driver’s license is required, as the role involves extensive travel.

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent report writing and analytical abilities.
  • Proven skills in planning, organizing, and project coordination.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • A proactive, professional, and flexible approach to work.
  • Experience in drafting contracts, legislative drafting, or litigation is a plus.
