Role Overview
Huntswood is looking for a reliable and experienced Facilities Assistant to join our team in Durban. In this role, you will be responsible for daily building inspections and general maintenance to ensure our offices remain safe and fully operational.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will handle a variety of maintenance tasks, including:
- Monitoring essential building systems such as UPS, HVAC, and generators.
- Performing minor repairs on doors, locks, frames, and handles.
- Replacing light bulbs, sockets, switches, and window glass.
- Carrying out basic plumbing tasks, including unblocking drains and fixing leaking taps or toilets.
- Using power tools and hand tools safely and keeping the toolbox organized.
- Setting up workspaces, including mounting TVs, shelves, whiteboards, and picture frames.
- Installing office appliances like microwaves and kettles.
- Arranging furniture for training sessions or new staff requirements.
- Ensuring all work areas are clean and meet health and safety standards.
Requirements and Skills
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Proven experience as a maintenance assistant or in a similar building services role.
- A good understanding of building systems, including electrical and plumbing.
- The ability to use manual and power tools effectively.
- Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
- A basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.
- Great attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labor.
- The flexibility to work overtime when required.
- A professional attitude and the ability to work well with others.
