Retail Store Assistant – Kingsburgh Junction (New Store)

Dis-Chem Pharmacies, South Africa’s leading pharmaceutical retailer, is seeking a dedicated Retail Store Assistant for our new branch at Kingsburgh Junction. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established group and contribute to the success of a brand-new location.

Role Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to support the overall management of the store. You will be responsible for ensuring that operational and administrative duties are carried out efficiently and in accordance with company policies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 or Matric.
  • Skills: Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook) and experience with SAP.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a retail environment is essential.
  • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen with a clear criminal and credit record.
  • Transport: Valid driver’s license and/or access to reliable transport.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Maintain a professional relationship with all customers.
  • Handle customer inquiries, compliments, and complaints, resolving them or referring them to the correct department when necessary.
  • Provide timely feedback to customers regarding stock queries.

Operations and Point of Sale

  • Manage point-of-sale transactions, including handling floats, managing shorts and overs, and processing refunds or returns.
  • Ensure that returned goods and “back shopping” items are processed correctly.
  • Oversee the daily run reconciliation and ensure cashiers have enough change to maintain high service levels.

Stock and Administration

  • Verify deliveries and invoices for accuracy.
  • Assist the Receiving Manager with logging claims through the Distribution Centre system.
  • Manage and control high-risk stock items.
  • Maintain accurate document control for petty cash and cash on hand.
