Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Oncology)

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is looking for dedicated Professional Nurses to join our Oncology team. This department provides essential public healthcare services to the people of the Western Cape. There are currently three vacancies: two in the Oncology Ward and one in Paediatric Oncology.

Job Overview

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following educational and registration criteria:

  • A Basic R425 qualification (Diploma or Degree in Nursing) that allows for registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
  • A post-basic nursing qualification of at least one year in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Oncology, accredited by the SANC.
  • Current registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.

Experience Levels

Candidates will be graded based on their professional experience:

  • Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years of nursing experience after registering with the SANC.
  • Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years of nursing experience after registering with the SANC. At least 10 years of this experience must be in the Oncology specialty after obtaining the one-year post-basic qualification.

Key Responsibilities & Working Conditions

  • Must be willing to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Must be willing to rotate between different Oncology departments as needed.

Skills and Competencies

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the laws and policies related to nursing and oncology.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
