Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
  • A three-year National Diploma in Accounting.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, preferably within a local government setting.
  • Professional competencies as required by Municipal Staff Regulations.
  • A valid Code B driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in computer use.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and supervisory skills.
  • The ability to work accurately under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will handle various financial and administrative tasks to ensure the municipality’s financial health. Primary duties include:

Financial Reporting and Support

  • Assisting with the preparation of Annual Financial Statements.
  • Consolidating income data to help produce accurate financial reports.
  • Preparing cash flow trend reports and statistical summaries.
  • Collaborating with internal and external auditors by providing necessary documentation and proof of approvals.

Revenue and Debtor Management

  • Overseeing the recording and processing of income-related transactions.
  • Reconciling debtor accounts and balancing ledger accounts.
  • Analyzing debtor reports and managing adjustments to account entries.
  • Generating debtor age analysis reports to track overdue accounts.
  • Calculating rates due on properties and working with legal professionals on contractual documentation.

Client Relations and Administration

  • Communicating with debtors regarding payment terms and conditions.
  • Addressing public queries regarding penalties, interest, and account balances.
  • Monitoring and improving record-keeping systems to ensure information is secure and easy to retrieve.
  • Reporting to the Finance Manager on the efficiency of current administrative controls.
