About the Role

Govan Mbeki Municipality is committed to providing sustainable, high-quality services and fostering local economic development. We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Artisan to support our Energy Operation, Maintenance, and Metering team. The successful candidate will work closely with qualified artisans to maintain our electrical infrastructure and serve the community.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 certificate.
  • Basic Electrical Certificate.
  • At least 2 years of practical experience in an electrical environment.
  • Proficiency in using electrical test meters.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict management skills.
  • A valid Code C1 driver’s license will be considered an advantage.
  • Compliance with the Local Government: Municipal Staff Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Assisting Artisans with customer complaints and technical queries.
  • Supporting the construction and maintenance of overhead distribution lines and underground networks.
  • Helping with the termination and jointing of high, medium, and low voltage cables.
  • Assisting with cable testing and fault finding.
  • Performing standby duties outside of normal working hours when required.
  • Preparing, cleaning, and maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Assisting with the wiring of distribution kiosks, metering units, and circuit breakers.
  • Maintaining public lighting and traffic signals.
  • General site preparation, including digging holes and trenches and clearing debris after tasks are completed.
