SHEQ Assistant (North West)

Fraser Alexander has been providing customized solutions to the mining industry since 1912. We focus on safety, risk management, and sustainable success. We are currently looking for a SHEQ Assistant to join our team in the North West province.

Role Purpose

The SHEQ Assistant will help implement and maintain management systems for Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ). The goal of this role is to manage risks effectively and ensure that all employees work safely and responsibly according to company and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Policy and Compliance

  • Display SHEQ policies in all work areas and ensure employees understand safety targets and goals.
  • Ensure all company practices follow legal requirements and submit necessary statutory documents.
  • Update appointments regularly and advise management on their safety roles and duties.
  • Monitor and review environmental and quality management plans.

Risk Assessment and Monitoring

  • Conduct risk assessments for health, safety, and environmental hazards.
  • Monitor the medical status of employees and ensure safety control measures are followed.
  • Report all incidents and assist with incident management.

Reporting and Special Projects

  • Submit detailed monthly reports to the SHEQ Manager.
  • Coordinate with laboratory staff and technicians for testing and inspections.
  • Provide feedback on special projects to help the company improve its safety processes.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Health and Safety Management.
  • Certified Internal Auditor for Integrated Management Systems.
  • Proven experience implementing ISO 14001 (Environment), ISO 9001 (Quality), and ISO 45001 (Health and Safety) systems.
  • Valid First Aid Certification.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a SHEQ role, specifically in hazard identification and risk assessment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain organized documentation.
  • High level of integrity and a strong commitment to workplace safety.
