Role Purpose

The Artisan Instrument Mechanician is responsible for the maintenance, refurbishment, and troubleshooting of instrument mechanical equipment. This role supports plant operations through technical expertise and effective fault-finding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on instrument mechanical equipment.
  • Use plant maintenance documentation and planning systems effectively.
  • Apply basic process knowledge specific to the plant or mine environment.
  • Ensure full compliance with Safety Management Systems (IMS, MBO).
  • Identify hazards and conduct task risk assessments.
  • Participate in daily meetings and provide progress updates to supervisors.
  • Contribute to root cause analyses (RCA) to improve plant stability.
  • Mentor junior artisans and learners to share technical knowledge.
  • Assist in developing work instructions to improve team competency.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and follow waste disposal procedures.
  • Ensure accurate technical feedback is captured for equipment upgrades and spare parts management.

Requirements

Education and Certification:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics, Science, and English literacy.
  • NQF 4 Instrument Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal).
  • Valid Driver’s License (Code 08 is required; Code 14 is an advantage).

Experience and Skills:

  • At least 3 years of experience as a qualified Instrument Artisan.
  • Strong experience using SAP software is essential.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.
  • Knowledge of process plants and pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Sasol’s permit systems and safety regulations.
