Role: Artisan Mechanical Fitter Grade 2

Job Purpose

The primary goal of this role is to operate mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment. You will perform routine maintenance tasks following specific instructions to ensure performance targets are met safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations & Maintenance: Demonstrate competence in maintaining plant equipment and systems. Use maintenance documentation and planning systems effectively.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to safety management systems (such as IMS and MBO). Perform task risk assessments, identify hazards, and follow emergency procedures.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Participate in daily morning meetings and provide regular progress updates to supervisors. Support team goals and meet deadlines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in root cause analyses (RCA) and physical inspections to improve plant stability. Help develop work instructions to improve staff competency.
  • Mentorship: Share knowledge with junior artisans and lead team efforts when required.
  • Administration: Maintain good housekeeping, follow waste disposal procedures, and ensure accurate feedback is recorded for equipment upgrades and spare parts.

Requirements

  • Education: Matric or N3 with passes in Mathematics, English, and Physical Science.
  • Certification: An Occupational Trade Qualification (Mechanical Red Seal).
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a similar environment.
