Role Purpose

The Function Specialist: Info & Cyber Management ensures that Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) operates in a safe, secure, and resilient environment. You will lead the efforts to protect our technology, information assets, and infrastructure. Your goal is to align cyber security with business objectives, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our systems while complying with all regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Leadership: Design and implement a comprehensive Information and Cyber Security Strategy. Lead the setup of a Cyber Security Operations Centre to monitor threats and respond to vulnerabilities.
  • Cyber Security Management: Develop frameworks based on international standards (such as NIST, ISO, and COBIT). Manage the technical team and oversee the security of platforms, infrastructure, and outsourced services.
  • Technical Operations: Manage security systems including firewalls, intrusion detection, cryptography, and anti-virus software. Oversee physical facility security systems like alarms and access controls.
  • Risk & Governance: Identify potential risks and legal issues. Ensure all IT activities meet statutory regulations and internal policies. Conduct regular audits and implement remedial actions when necessary.
  • Incident Response: Develop and test recovery plans to handle cyber incidents. Ensure the business can quickly recover from disruptive events.
  • Stakeholder & People Management: Build relationships with government agencies and internal partners. Coach and develop your team, ensuring high performance and continuous learning.
  • Financial Management: Manage the operational budget (OPEX) and provide input for capital expenditure (CAPEX) related to security technology.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. A Post-Graduate qualification is an advantage.
  • Certifications: Must hold a CISSP, CISM, or an equivalent recognized professional certification.
  • Experience: 8 to 10 years of experience in Information and Cyber Security. This must include designing security programs and managing security tool lifecycles.
  • Leadership: At least 3 years in a leadership role managing large teams or complex projects and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Requirements: A valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel. Candidates must undergo a lifestyle audit and meet trust requirements for financial handling.
