Role Purpose
In this role, you will support the General Manager of Regulation and Compliance. Your primary focus will be to manage the impact of regulations on Transnet’s business. You will analyze regulatory requirements to protect the organization from negative impacts and help the Board and Management meet their legal obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Monitoring: Stay updated on new laws and policies that affect Transnet and update the company’s regulatory records.
- Strategic Influence: Develop positions to help influence government and regulators when they create new guidelines or standards.
- Compliance Management: Create and implement control plans to ensure different business units follow legal requirements.
- Support & Advice: Provide expert guidance on regulatory methodologies, including tariffs and asset valuations.
- Risk Mitigation: Identify potential non-compliance issues, recommend solutions, and track the implementation of these improvements.
- Training & Awareness: Develop training materials to ensure staff across the organization understand their compliance duties.
- Relationship Building: Maintain professional relationships with key regulators and government bodies.
- Reporting: Draft detailed reports for the Board and Management regarding regulatory developments and the organization’s compliance status.
- Policy Oversight: Maintain the company’s policy framework to ensure internal rules are valid and accessible to all employees.
Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) is required. A Post-graduate degree is highly preferred.
- Experience: At least 10 years of experience in a compliance or regulation role within a large company.
- Leadership: Minimum of 5 years of experience at a senior management level. People management experience is an advantage.
- Integrity: A high level of trust and honesty is required, particularly regarding financial matters, in line with the National Credit Act.
