Officer: Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

Eskom is the primary provider of electricity in South Africa, generating approximately 95% of the country’s power. We are currently seeking a qualified Officer: Safety, Health & Environment to ensure the highest standards of safety and environmental management across our operations.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Managing safety, health, and environmental activities within assigned areas.
  • Identifying, assessing, and managing operational risks.
  • Handling the administration and daily management of the SHE department.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) standards and regulations.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • National Diploma in Safety Management, Environmental Management, or Environmental Health (NQF5).
  • A completed apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • Professional Registration with SACPCMP.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience working with Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering plant equipment.
  • At least 3 years of experience specifically within the Occupational Health and Environmental field as a Safety Officer.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the OHS Act 85 of 1993 and legal compliance auditing. Familiarity with ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including presentation and persuasion abilities.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and influence team members.
