Job Opportunity: Utilityman Site – Earthworks

Eskom is the primary energy provider in South Africa, supplying approximately 95% of the country’s electricity. We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Utilityman to join our construction and earthworks team in Mpumalanga. This is a full-time position suited for individuals with technical experience in civil engineering and construction.

Key Responsibilities

As a Utilityman, you will be responsible for providing essential technical support on-site. Your main duties will include:

  • Erecting and dismantling shuttering and support structures.
  • Placing, compacting, finishing, and repairing concrete.
  • Positioning, cutting, bending, and binding reinforcement materials.
  • Participating in workshop toolbox talks to ensure clear communication.
  • Adhering to all Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or an N3 National Qualification (NQF Level 4).
  • Experience: 1 to 2 years of practical experience in the construction or civil engineering field.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with construction method statements, safety rules, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Tool Proficiency: Ability to identify and correctly use various tools and equipment.
  • Safety Focus: Experience in compiling Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA).
  • Work Ethic: Strong time management skills and a willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Good communication skills and the ability to resolve conflicts professionally.
