Code 10 Driver – Empangeni Area

RCL FOODS is a leading African food producer based in South Africa. With over 20,000 employees, we manufacture and distribute a wide range of popular food brands. We are currently looking for a motivated and customer-focused Code 10 Driver Salesman to join our baking business unit in Empangeni.

Role Overview

This is a permanent, full-time position reporting to the Distribution Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting and selling bread and confectionery products. This includes visiting traders and retail stores, taking orders, delivering goods, and finding new customers.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 certificate.
• A valid Code 10 Driver’s License with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
• At least 2 years of driving experience within the FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) sector.
• Experience in selling products for cash and acquiring new customers.
• Strong numeracy skills and the ability to communicate clearly in English.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
• Ability to be on standby to cover for absent colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

Driving and Vehicle Care

• Maintain high standards of vehicle hygiene and cleanliness.
• Conduct daily safety checks and report any mechanical faults immediately.
• Follow all road safety rules and company procedures for accidents or theft.
• Ensure the driving compartment remains a safe and clean work environment.

Sales and Customer Service

• Provide friendly and respectful service to all customers.
• Grow the business by increasing sales to existing clients and finding new ones.
• Liaise with customers weekly to ensure they are satisfied with the service.
• Implement promotional activities and report on competitor activities in the area.

Stock and Deliveries

• Verify that stock loaded matches the orders before leaving the depot.
• Ensure the quality of the products and handle delivery documentation accurately.
• Manage the recovery of bread crates to minimize losses.
• Assist with loading and unloading stock when necessary.

Team Supervision

• Supervise the Van Assistant to ensure they follow company standards.
• Coach and train assistants on customer service and operational tasks.

Financial Administration

• Safeguard all cash, paperwork, and stock while on the route.
• Deposit cash into the vehicle safe immediately upon receipt.
• Complete daily cash-ups and ensure all paperwork balances with the stock sold.
• Keep accurate logs of fuel usage, mileage, and delivery notes.
