Retail Store Assistant – Dis-Chem Pharmacies (George, New Store)

Dis-Chem Pharmacies, South Africa’s leading pharmaceutical retailer, is looking for a Retail Store Assistant to join our team at the new One On York branch in George. In this role, you will assist with the daily operations and administrative tasks of the store to ensure everything runs smoothly and follows company standards.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Grade 12 or Matric certificate.
• Experience: Previous experience in a retail environment.
• Skills: Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Knowledge of SAP is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service:

• Build professional relationships with customers and handle queries or complaints effectively.
• Help customers find stock and provide feedback when needed.
• Maintain a fast and efficient service pace at the checkout.

Sales and Finance:

• Manage cash registers, including floats, refunds, and returns.
• Handle “back shopping” and ensure returned goods are processed correctly.
• Maintain accurate records for petty cash and cash on hand.

Stock and Administration:

• Verify deliveries and invoices to ensure accuracy.
• Help the Receiving Manager with stock claims and documentation.
• Monitor and control high-risk stock items.
• Keep daily reconciliations and ensure cashiers have enough change.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong knowledge of retail administration and operations.
• A team player with excellent customer service skills.
• Honest, trustworthy, and shows leadership potential.
• Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

Special Conditions

• Must be a South African citizen.
• Must have a clear criminal and credit record (MIE check).
• Valid driver’s license and/or reliable transport.
