Chief Artisan A: Millwright (Electromechanical)

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) is seeking a qualified and experienced Chief Artisan to join our team in the Western Cape. This is a full-time position within the Engineering and Technical field, focused on maintaining high standards in the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) system.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A National Technical Certificate (NTC 3) in an Electrical or Mechanical field.
  • A valid Trade Test Certificate in Millwright (Electromechanical).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of technical experience gained after qualifying as an artisan.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in artisan training or assessment.
  • A valid Assessor Certificate will be considered a strong advantage.
  • In-depth knowledge of Trade Test regulations, ARPL guidelines, and the Skills Development Act.
  • The ability to assess candidates effectively in the Millwright trade.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Candidate Assessment: Conduct professional assessments for candidates in the Millwright (Electromechanical) trade.
  • Facility Management: Maintain assessment equipment and facilities to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Record Keeping: Ensure all assessment records are accurate and kept securely.
  • Supervision: Oversee Tradesman Aids and manage the performance of reporting staff.
  • Resource Management: Handle the procurement and control of stock required for assessments.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist with accreditation audits, external moderation, and monitoring activities.
  • Safety: Maintain strict safety standards within the workshop at all times.
