Job Opportunity: Chief Artisan Grade A (Mechanical Fitter)

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A National Technical Certificate (NTC 3) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A valid Trade Test Certificate as a Mechanical Fitter or Fitter and Turner.
  • At least three years of experience working in the trade after qualifying as an artisan.
  • Two years of experience in artisan training or assessment.
  • A strong understanding of the Skills Development Act, the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, and Trade Test/ARPL regulations.
  • An Assessor Certificate is considered an advantage.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Chief Artisan will be responsible for overseeing technical standards and assessments. Key tasks include:

  • Trade Assessments: Conducting assessments for the Mechanical Fitter and Fitter and Turner trades, including the implementation of ARPL (Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning).
  • Quality Assurance: Auditing external Trade Test centers and maintaining accurate assessment records.
  • Supervision: Managing Trade Assistants and evaluating the performance of reporting staff.
  • Operational Management: Handling the procurement and control of assessment stock and materials.
  • Safety: Maintaining workshop safety and ensuring strict adherence to health and safety policies.
