Chief Artisan A: Refrigeration Mechanic

The Department of Higher Education and Training is looking for a qualified and experienced Chief Artisan to join our team in the Western Cape. This role is essential for maintaining high standards in technical training and ensuring the quality of trade assessments within the refrigeration sector.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A National Technical Certificate (NTC3) in Refrigeration Engineering or a related field.
  • Certification: A valid Trade Test Certificate in Refrigeration Mechanic and a recognized Assessor Certificate.
  • Experience: At least three (3) years of experience working as a qualified Artisan.
  • Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of experience in artisan training or assessment.
  • Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of the Skills Development Act of 1998 and the ability to conduct trade tests.
  • Preferred Extras: Registration with SARACCA as a Refrigerant gas installer is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Conducting assessments and trade tests for Refrigeration Mechanics.
  • Implementing Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL).
  • Auditing external Trade Test Centers to ensure they meet required standards.
  • Managing and organizing assessment records and documentation.
  • Supervising Trade Assistants and managing the performance of reporting staff.
  • Overseeing the procurement and control of workshop stock and tools.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to health and safety policies within the workshop.
