About the South African Revenue Service (SARS)
SARS is the national authority responsible for collecting taxes and managing customs in South Africa. Our primary goal is to collect all national taxes and duties to help the country grow. We are looking for a skilled Senior Auditor to join our team and help us maintain a fair and effective tax system.
Job Purpose
In this role, you will lead complex audits to ensure taxpayers are following the law. You will identify tax gaps, avoidance schemes, and evasion tactics. Your work will involve providing technical support to other auditors and suggesting changes to legislation to improve national tax compliance.
Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF level 7).
- Experience: At least 6 years of experience in corporate tax, including 4 years of audit experience focusing on Corporate Income Tax (CIT) and Value Added Tax (VAT).
Key Responsibilities
Audit and Analysis
- Plan and carry out advanced audits for complex business entities.
- Analyze large amounts of data to identify financial risks and tax implications.
- Review transactions across various tax types and related business groups, both locally and internationally.
- Use digital tools and systems to track and evaluate tax compliance.
Compliance and Legal Support
- Identify and report serious tax offenses for criminal investigation.
- Work with legal teams during disputes and provide expert testimony in court when necessary.
- Ensure all assessments are accurate and aligned with current tax laws.
- Collaborate with Debt Management to ensure taxes owed are collected efficiently.
Process Improvement and Strategy
- Research new tax risks and suggest improvements to current audit methods.
- Provide input on new policies, procedures, and legislative changes.
- Share knowledge and provide coaching or training to junior auditors.
- Contribute to a culture of service excellence by providing professional advice to all stakeholders.
