Senior Librarian
The City of Cape Town is looking for a dedicated and professional Senior Librarian to join our team. As South Africa’s oldest city and a major economic hub, we are committed to providing excellent service and communication to our residents.
Position Overview
- Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
- Job Type: Full-Time

Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should have the following qualifications and experience:
- Education: A 4-year qualification in Library and Information Science (B.Bibl, B.LIS, B.Tech LIS, B.Inf Hons, PGDip LIS, or equivalent).
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in a public library setting, including experience supervising or leading a team.
- Language: Fluency in Afrikaans is required to effectively serve the local community.
- Membership: A valid LIASA membership.
- Tech Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Skills and Abilities
We are looking for a candidate who brings the following strengths to the team:
- Deep knowledge of librarianship principles, including collection development, reference work, and information retrieval.
- A broad knowledge of literature and a strong reading background.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to identify user needs and adapt to a changing environment.
Working Conditions
The successful candidate will be required to work on a roster basis, which includes evening shifts and Saturdays.
