Operator/Driver (Digger Loader)
Breede Valley Municipality, located in Worcester, Western Cape, is seeking a skilled and reliable individual to join our team as a Digger Loader Operator. This is a permanent position dedicated to maintaining and improving our local infrastructure and services.
Job Purpose
The successful candidate will operate heavy mechanical plant and specialized vehicles to support various municipal departments, including parks and cemeteries, solid waste, roads, water, and electricity. This role involves transporting equipment, materials, and personnel to various sites and performing essential maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with supervisors to confirm site requirements and job specifications.
- Perform daily safety inspections on vehicles and heavy machinery, checking controls and lubricant levels.
- Operate front-end loaders and other heavy machinery for waste management and leveling.
- Dig trenches and excavate areas for water pipes, power cables, sewage lines, and storm water channels.
- Assist with road maintenance, including gravel filling and asphalt work on tar roads.
- Maintain and level surfaces at municipal cemeteries.
- Complete and submit accurate vehicle log sheets for authorization.
- Strictly follow all occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 8 qualification (First School Leaving Certificate).
- Valid Digger Loader Operator Certificate.
- Valid Code B driver’s license.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience operating heavy machinery.
- Strong machine operating skills and technical knowledge.
- Proficiency in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
