Handyman: Mechanical Workshop (Permanent)

Breede Valley Municipality is looking for a skilled Handyman to join our Mechanical Workshop team in Worcester, Western Cape. This is a permanent, full-time position focused on supporting the maintenance and repair of our municipal vehicles and plant machinery.

Role Purpose

In this role, you will assist senior mechanical staff with daily repairs and vehicle servicing. Your work ensures that our fleet stays in good working condition through regular maintenance, part replacements, and thorough inspections.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the repair and maintenance of vehicles and plant machinery.
• Remove and replace worn-out tires, bearings, bushes, and defective components.
• Perform routine checks on oil levels, electronic parts, and braking systems.
• Test safety features like headlamps, turn signals, and wipers to ensure they work correctly.
• Clean engines and flush water systems to prevent blockages.
• Replace gaskets, seals, v-belts, and air/oil filters.
• Repair small appliances and maintain a clean, organized workshop.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and assist with vehicle breakdowns or towing when needed.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Grade 10 (Matric preferred).
• Experience: At least 2 years of relevant mechanical experience.
• License: A valid Code EC Driver’s License with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
• Language: Ability to speak at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
