Established by the government under the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC), the NCC ensures the economic welfare of consumers, who play a vital role in growing the national economy.
Job Overview
The NCC is seeking a professional Company Secretary to oversee governance and provide strategic direction for the Commission. This role involves developing corporate systems, advising the Commission on legislative matters, and ensuring all business units adhere to established regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Governance and Strategy: Develop and implement policies for corporate governance. Research best practices and monitor the progress of NCC programs to ensure they meet national benchmarks.
- System Design: Create and maintain governance procedures for internal committees, including EXCO, MANCO, and the Tender Award Committee.
- Capacity Building: Conduct induction sessions for new Commission members and facilitate ongoing skills development.
- Technical Advice: Provide expert advice based on current legislation and regulatory frameworks. Analyze submissions and make formal recommendations for Commission decisions.
- Decision Implementation: Facilitate and track the implementation of Commission decisions across various divisions to ensure timely completion.
- Compliance Monitoring: Review the effectiveness of governance systems and recommend improvements to strengthen the organization’s integrity.
- Policy Analysis: Assess existing policies and procedures to identify gaps and update them according to modern standards.
Requirements
- Education: A Post Graduate Qualification in Legal, Commerce, Human Sciences, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 6 years of management experience in either the public or private sector.
- Skills: Proficiency in MS Office 365 and Project Management.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of South African legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- License: A valid driver’s license is required.
