Senior Artisan: Millwright (Mechanical / Electrical)

Bergrivier Municipality serves a community of over 56,000 people across several regions, including Velddrif, Piketberg, and Porterville. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Artisan (Millwright) to join our Electrotechnical Services Division in Velddrif.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will oversee the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical installations. This includes managing water and sewage pump stations, supervising support staff, and ensuring all work complies with health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise mechanical and electrical installations, repairs, and maintenance.
• Monitor work progress and ensure high-quality performance from the maintenance team.
• Manage and maintain municipal equipment, vehicles, and tools.
• Oversee the maintenance of water and sewage treatment works.
• Handle administrative tasks, including purchasing materials and tracking fuel and supplies.
• Ensure all activities comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Education: N3 Trade Tested Artisan with an Occupational Certificate in Millwright.
• Experience: 3 to 5 years of relevant experience after qualifying in a similar environment.
• License: A valid Code B driver’s license.
• Skills: Basic computer literacy and proficiency in at least two official languages of the Western Cape (English, Afrikaans, or Xhosa).
• Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and able to work in confined spaces and various weather conditions.
• Availability: Must be willing to work overtime and attend to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
