Job Purpose
The Integrated Development Officer will play a vital role in planning and implementing the municipality’s long-term strategies. This position involves coordinating with various government sectors, managing development plans, and ensuring that community needs are reflected in municipal policies.
Minimum Requirements
- A 3-year tertiary qualification (Degree or Diploma) in Development Studies, Project Management, Urban Development, or Municipal Administration.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Office.
- Proficiency in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
- Willingness to work outside of standard business hours when necessary for community meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the compilation and annual review of the Knysna Municipality Five-Year Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
- Organize strategic sessions with senior management and the Mayoral Committee to establish the municipality’s long-term vision.
- Coordinate Inter-Governmental Relations (IGR) by meeting with provincial and national departments.
- Represent the municipality at district and provincial IDP forums.
- Ensure the IDP is properly aligned with the municipality’s Performance Management System.
- Assist various departments and Ward Committees in developing specific action plans.
- Facilitate public meetings to gather community feedback on draft development plans.
- Conduct research on government policies and programs to ensure local plans remain current and effective.
- Supervise assigned staff members and assist in the production of the municipal Annual Report.
