Job Summary
We are looking for a qualified and experienced Mechanical/HVAC Artisan. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of hospital mechanical systems. Your goal is to ensure that critical infrastructure—such as air conditioning (HVAC), water systems, pumps, and compressors—remains reliable, safe, and efficient.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Matric (Grade 12).
- National Trade Certificate in Mechanical or HVAC (Compulsory).
- An N6 or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is an advantage.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of post-trade experience in HVAC and mechanical systems.
- Experience working in a hospital or a large commercial building is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of VRF systems, chillers, pumps, and plant rooms.
- Ability to find and fix electrical faults related to HVAC controls and motors.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Strong technical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Understanding of the OHS Act and safety regulations.
- Experience in preventative and planned maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Good communication and report-writing skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance on HVAC and ventilation systems.
- Repair mechanical and electrical faults in chillers, air handling units (AHUs), and split units.
- Ensure specialized areas like operating theaters and ICUs meet environmental standards.
- Maintain water systems, pumps, compressors, and heat exchangers.
- Monitor plant room operations, including temperature and pressure levels.
- Respond quickly to mechanical breakdowns to minimize disruptions to hospital services.
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance work in the management system.
- Supervise external contractors to ensure quality work.
- Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures.
