Assistant Financial Manager

FFS Refiners is looking for two dedicated Assistant Financial Managers to join our team in Durban. As we strive to create sustainable energy solutions, we are seeking professionals who live out our company values and contribute to our long-term success.

We are currently hiring for two distinct roles. Please see the specific responsibilities for each position below.


Position 1: Operational & Reporting Focus

This role focuses on property, plant, and equipment (PPE) reporting, taxation, and group financial statements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Asset Management: Maintain the fixed asset register, reconcile monthly movements, and ensure capital projects are recorded on time.
  • Taxation: Assist with year-end tax filings, statutory audits, and annual financial statements.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly management accounts, board reports, and group annual financial statements.
  • Subsidiary Oversight: Review monthly reconciliations and prepare financial reports for holding companies and subsidiaries.
  • General Finance: Manage prepayments, approve creditor invoices, and assist with the annual budget process.

Position 2: Procurement & Treasury Focus

This role focuses on oil procurement management, treasury functions, and system development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oil Procurement: Oversee the procurement team, review product costings, manage stock losses, and authorize supplier invoices.
  • Treasury & Cash Flow: Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts, manage foreign exchange (Forex) exposure, and handle Reserve Bank applications for foreign payments.
  • Banking: Manage short-term banking facilities and resolve any queries with financial institutions.
  • System Development: Assist with software implementation and improvements (specifically Syspro and in-house systems).

Shared Responsibilities (Both Roles)

  • Provide technical financial advice on business strategies and projects.
  • Complete ad hoc assignments as required by management.

Requirements

To be successful in either role, you should meet the following criteria:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: CA (SA), CIMA, or a B.Comm in Accounting is essential.
  • Experience: At least 6 years of experience as a Financial Accountant or Manager.
  • Articles: Completing articles at a major audit firm is highly preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with large ERP systems (such as SAP or SYSPRO) is essential.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of data query logic and system development.
