2026 SABS Youth Development Programme: Laboratory Services (Auto, Civil & Mechanical)

The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is a statutory body responsible for maintaining standardisation and quality in South Africa. We are inviting unemployed graduates to join our one-year Internship Programme starting in April 2026.

This programme is designed to provide young professionals with practical work experience, mentorship, and learning opportunities that align with national skill priorities. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Pretoria, Gauteng.

Programme Details

  • Monthly Stipend: R8,000.00
  • Duration: 12 Months
  • Location: Pretoria
  • Field: Laboratory Services (Automotive, Civil, and Mechanical)

Requirements

To be considered for this programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be between 18 and 35 years of age.
  • Must have completed a relevant Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have achieved a minimum 80% academic average for the completed qualification.
  • Must have no previous formal work experience related to their field of study.
  • Must be currently unemployed.

Duties and Responsibilities

During the 12-month programme, successful candidates will:

  • Participate in structured training and development initiatives.
  • Gain hands-on experience through rotational assignments in the laboratory services department.
  • Assist with departmental projects, research, and administrative tasks.
  • Apply academic knowledge to real-world practical environments.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet organizational goals.
  • Submit regular progress reports and complete required assessments.
  • Comply with all SABS policies and professional standards.
