Onderstepoort Biological Products SOC Ltd (OBP) is a South African state-owned company dedicated to manufacturing animal vaccines. Our mission is to prevent and control animal diseases to support food security, human health, and rural livelihoods through innovation and efficient manufacturing.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring the high-quality production of animal vaccines. Key duties include:

Production & Laboratory Operations

  • Accurately weigh and formulate products for the production process.
  • Calibrate scales, pH meters, and temperature probes according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Sterilize growth media using filtration, steam, or irradiation.
  • Operate autoclaves and manage sterilization processes for bacterial and viral production.
  • Maintain and validate pH levels of various mediums.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and the mixing plant.

Planning & Stock Management

  • Assist with weekly and monthly production planning.
  • Manage the retention store and ensure products are stored correctly.
  • Monitor stock levels of raw materials and initiate internal procurement when supplies are low.
  • Conduct monthly stock counts and resolve any discrepancies.

Quality Control & Documentation

  • Complete all batch documentation and ERP reporting accurately.
  • Monitor and record temperatures for cold rooms, freezers, and incubators.
  • Update and review SOPs to maintain high quality standards.
  • Ensure all work follows ISO and quality assurance protocols.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Identify and manage risks within the department.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary evidence and documentation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: National Diploma in Life Sciences (NQF 6).
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience working in a pharmaceutical laboratory.
  • Technical Skill: Proven experience working in an aseptic (sterile) environment is essential.
