Job Opportunity: Medical Orthotist & Prosthetist (Grade 1 to 3)
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is responsible for providing public healthcare services to the people of the Western Cape. We are currently seeking qualified individuals to join our Technical Services team as Medical Orthotists and Prosthetists.

Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: An appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- Professional Registration: Must be registered with the HPCSA as a Medical Orthotist and Prosthetist.
- License: A valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license.
Experience Requirements
The position is available across three grades based on your years of professional experience:
Grade 1:
- No experience required after registration for South African qualified candidates.
- Foreign qualified candidates require 1 year of relevant experience if they are not required to perform Community Service in South Africa.
Grade 2:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience after registration for South African qualified candidates.
- A minimum of 11 years of experience for foreign qualified candidates.
Grade 3:
- A minimum of 20 years of experience after registration for South African qualified candidates.
- A minimum of 21 years of experience for foreign qualified candidates.
Key Skills and Competencies
Successful candidates should possess the following skills:
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to design and build orthotic and prosthetic devices.
- Anatomical Knowledge: A strong understanding of human anatomy and biomechanics.
- Problem-Solving: Skill in identifying issues with devices and making necessary adjustments.
- Manual Dexterity: Precision and skill in using tools and materials.
- Communication: The ability to work well with patients and other healthcare professionals.
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
